The most famous event in Venice’s calendar? It’s got to be the Carnival. Every February, revellers and performers swarm the city, decked out in creepy Venetian masks. Didn’t get invited to a mysterious masquerade ball? Not to worry - wear your mask and most outlandish costume to enjoy the packed street parties and parades.

Things get pretty wild at La Festa del Redentore too, where you can stay up till sunrise and watch the exploding fireworks with Venice’s young crowd.

Other important events include the arts and culture festival, Venice Biennale, and the Vogalonga, which sees rowing boats of all shapes and sizes bobbing along the Venice lagoon.
