Miami FAQs

  • Is Miami safe to visit?

Miami is generally a safe destination with bustling, well-patrolled areas, especially around the popular tourist spots. Whether you're exploring South Beach or enjoying the vibrant nightlife, you'll find that public transport, like the Metrorail and buses, is typically safe. However, as with any city, it's smart to stay cautious, especially in quieter areas after dark.

Certain neighborhoods might be best avoided late at night, so it's a good idea to check local advice before heading out. Miami’s emergency services are reliable, with 911 available for any immediate police, medical, or fire assistance.

  • Is Miami LGBTQ+ friendly?

Absolutely! Miami is known for its lively, inclusive LGBTQ+ scene, making it a popular spot for visitors from all over the world. South Beach is the heart of the action, with its legendary LGBTQ+ nightlife, offering plenty of bars, clubs, and parties that welcome everyone. Just outside of Miami, Wilton Manors is another must-visit, famous for its friendly, LGBTQ+ focused atmosphere, with tons of restaurants, shops, and hangouts.

Miami Pride, one of the city's biggest events, is a vibrant celebration filled with parades, parties, and events that draw massive crowds. Plus, Florida’s legal protections for LGBTQ+ individuals, including marriage equality and anti-discrimination laws, make it a welcoming and supportive environment.

  • When is the best time to visit Miami?

For those craving warm, sunny weather, winter (December to February) is perfect. With comfortable temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C (60°F to 75°F), it's the ideal time to enjoy the beaches and outdoor events. Keep in mind, though, it’s peak tourist season, so expect bustling crowds and higher prices during this time.

Spring (March to May) is another fantastic time to visit, with fewer tourists and balmy weather that’s just right for beach days and outdoor activities. You’ll miss the winter crowds, but some spring break hotspots can still be busy.

If you’re looking for bargains and don’t mind the heat, summer (June to August) is hot and humid, often topping 30°C (85°F). It's also hurricane season, but if you can handle a few storms, you'll find lower hotel prices and fewer tourists.

Autumn (September to November) brings warm temperatures, a calming atmosphere, and lower humidity. It’s a quieter season with fewer visitors, though there’s still a chance of hurricanes, especially in September.

  • How can I be a good tourist in Miami?

In Miami, respect for the environment is key! Whether you're at the beach or a park, avoid littering and be mindful of local wildlife and ecosystems. When on the beach, remember to keep noise levels down, steer clear of loud music, and always clean up after yourself.

While using public transport or taxis, stick to designated waiting areas and be courteous by offering seats to those in need. Miami’s streets can get busy, so keep your belongings secure and be aware of your surroundings.

When dining or shopping, be polite to staff and remember to tip appropriately—it's part of the local culture. And don’t miss the chance to explore Miami’s incredible food scene, where you can indulge in everything from Cuban coffee to fresh seafood. Respect local culinary traditions and savor the experience!

  • What public holidays/events in Miami should I be aware of?

Miami’s calendar is packed with exciting events! Art Basel Miami Beach (December) is a world-renowned art fair that draws celebrities, art lovers, and collectors from around the globe. While it's an amazing event, be prepared for big crowds and higher hotel prices.

Miami Carnival (October) is an explosion of color, music, and dance, celebrating Caribbean culture with parades and street parties that light up the city.

In February, the South Beach Wine & Food Festival is a foodie’s dream, with renowned chefs, culinary showcases, and plenty of parties. It’s a great time to indulge in Miami’s flavors and mingle with food enthusiasts and celebrities.

Miami Pride (April) turns the city into a rainbow of fun and love, with a huge parade, parties, and events that celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. And if you’re visiting in March, don’t miss the Calle Ocho Festival, part of Carnaval Miami, where Latin culture takes center stage with live music, delicious food, and vibrant street entertainment. It’s an unforgettable experience, but expect crowded streets and lively celebrations!
