The world’s only floating flower market is a half-hour jaunt across the centre of Amsterdam from the Generator hostel in Oosterpark. It’s open pretty much all day, seven days a week, so you don’t have to worry about getting up as heinously early as you’d need to in order to catch the best of, say, London’s flower markets. The 15 florists and garden shops that make up Bloemenmarkt are run by people who live permanently on barges along the waterway. It’s as colourful as you’d expect and has a reputation for selling high quality, good value flora.
