Sit by the Tiber in one of Rome's coolest bars

Freni-e-Frizioni-Rome-Italy-1

Almost every cool Roman will direct you to Freni e Frizioni. For good reason.

It’s one of the best places to grab an aperitif if you’re going out for dinner, clubbing or just walking through the city at night. Located in the trendy area of Trastevere, Freni e Frizioni, which translates as ‘Brakes and Clutches’, is filled with the re-purposed mechanical ephemera you’d expect in a former garage. (If all the tables are gone you might end up drinking your wine while sitting on a gasoline barrel.)

It’s also a great place to grab a light, cheap dinner if you want to combine the eating and pre-drinking . There’s always an ‘All You Can Eat’ buffet table on offer, although you should get there early in the evening before it runs out. And, remember, you’re in Italy – so don’t expect cold chips and bland salads. The buffet’s fresh, healthy and generally vegetarian – couscous and fragrant salads. Have it while enjoying a view of the Tiber and wash it down with a glass of vino.
