Generator_Hostels_Berlin_NickTalos3_2

German DJ and producer Nick Talos is having a hot moment right now.

Signed recently with prestigious label Universal Music, he is about to drop a series of high profile releases that are sure to raise the creative stakes.

The Berlin based floor-filler has built a reputation for exploring the depths of dance music and coming up with creative, percussive edits - guaranteed to push the party to the highest.

Nick was raised in Aurich, in the north of Germany, but he honed his production technique in his adopted home, which is of course the most discerning clubbing arena in the whole of Europe.

Nick has worked of late on distinctive grooves with the likes of Fergie, Ellie Goulding and Craig David — and we caught up with him just before his hectic summer schedule takes off into the stratosphere.

Did you grow up in a musical family?
Yes. My mother started learning the piano when I was nine, she just took me with her back then. I eventually started playing too. I ended up playing piano for eight years and stopped when I moved to the US. This was the time I started with music production. Also my parents listened to a lot of 70s and 80s soul, funk and R&B music. I can't remember any car ride without one of their CDs being played.

Tell us a about the first music you remember as a child....
Whitney Houston. My parents are huge Whitney fans!

Tell us about the first piece of vinyl you ever bought...
To be honest I never really bought a vinyl. I grew up with cassettes and CDs. Michael Jackson was the first album I bought. I must have been like ten years old back then.

Your sound is all about the quality of the production: how did you learn those skills?
I practiced every day since the day I started with music production. Most of these skills are self-taught. I watched some tutorials in the beginning to get the basic idea of the software and started messing around with sounds from there on.

Name six dream collaborators...
Calvin Harris, Zayn, Tove Lo, Zara Larsson, Lil Uzi Vert, and Migos.

What had been your highest moment in music?
Signing with my new label Universal Music a few weeks ago. I have a lot of songs ready to release —  I'm super excited to share them with everyone soon.

What does music mean to you?
Next to my family and friends, music is the biggest part of my life.
