Eating Out in Rome

In our humble opinion, the best food in Rome is the simplest - silky smooth carbonara, copious varieties of pizza oozing with cheese and delicious toppings, and scrumptious scoops of gelato in myriad flavours (there’s a reason Julia Roberts flew to Rome to scoff pizza in the “Eat” part of “Eat Pray Love”).

So how do you choose a restaurant in a city with such abundant good food? For starters, tempting as it is to sit down to eat smack bang in front of a beautiful monument, food will usually be more expensive and lower quality here.

Avoid tourist traps (pictures and flags on the menu are a no-no). Instead, explore the ristorantes, trattorias, and pizzerias that lie just off the beaten path.
