Dublin Date Nights

Reading time: 5 minutes: Could Dublin be a dark horse in the running for the title of Europe’s romantic capital? Okay sure, Paris is special, and yes, Venice is stunning, but they’re both so overdone aren’t they? It’s nearly 2022, and after careful evaluation, we’ve determined that there’s nothing more romantic than having your partner hold your hands close, look you deep in the eyes and quietly whisper in your ear, “What’s the craic?”

So, whether you’re in town with your significant other, or you’ve met someone special you’re looking to impress, here is a little list of Dublin restaurants and cozy eating spots to go to on date night.

Angelina's
A picturesque spot on the canal, Angelina’s is open all day and has a broad menu, delicious cocktails and beautiful views. It’s definitely worth booking in advance to avoid disappointment, as it does tend to fill up. If you’re around during brunch, definitely try out the egg florentine, while our number one dinner option is the sea bass for sure.

Bloom brasserie
Also found in the Dublin 4 district, the Bloom Brasserie is a sworn-by favourite for locals and tourists alike. The food is made with local flair and is always delicious, and the location itself is warm and intimate, ideal for whiling away a few hours and working through the great wine selection. You’ll step out with a smile on your face, that’s for certain.

Las tapas de Lola
Some people say that tapas on a first date is a terrible idea, but we think it’s a useful tool to pick up on red flags. What better way to judge your date than over shared finger food; it’s messy, it’s clumsy, and it requires compromise in selecting dishes. You’ll know immediately if he’s your people or not. Las tapas de Lola has a really delicious selection of tapas and is open until late, so head out and hit the bars of Wexford Street when you’re done.

Sophie’s
Two words, five syllables: Panoramic views. Sophie’s rooftop bar is an unforgettable location with a high-end feel, ideal for an early evening sundowner. It’s a little bit on the pricey side, but you’re paying for real quality; expect amazing cocktails, delicious food, and a stunning view showing off the entirety of Dublin, from cityscape to countryside.

Locks
Despite winning Best Private Dining and Club Restaurant in Ireland at the 2018 Restaurant Awards, Locks still has the feel of a place you can show off as a great find on your part. Situated on the canal, it features a regularly updated seasonal menu with great Irish high-end cuisine and a very good selection of wine by the glass. It’s comfortable, classy and quiet, most definitely a place to spend a long time enjoying special company.

Host
Who says dates need to exclusively be one-on-one? Host specialises in small plates of delectable culinary delights, designed for sharing. This is a place where the more is most definitely the merrier, so book a table for a couples’ night out, and enjoy the seasonal specials supplied by the Chef’s menu.

Drury Buildings
Drury Buildings describes itself as “a mish mash of Berlin exterior, New York interior, in the heart of Dublin’s Creative Quarter, fine wines, classic cocktails, craft beers and some really cracking Italian food.” This picturesque restaurant has a lively feel and a beautiful terrace area. Be sure to take advantage of the great gin selection while you’re there, before heading out to enjoy a night out in the bustling Dublin 2 area.
