The Phoenix Park

Phoenix_Park_Dublin_04

On the edge of the city is one of Europe's largest urban parks. The Phoenix Park is so big that it's home to a large herd of deer, a zoo, a presidential palace, a farm, an ambassador's residence, the Irish military barracks and a few scattered monuments to old British rulers and, of course, Pope John Paul II. Dublin is built upon narrow lanes and jogging through the city can feel a little like jogging through a supermarket; the Phoenix Park is a glorious open space or as Dubliners call it, the big green lung.
