Reading Time: 5 minutes

Paris and romance; together, they match like Valentine’s Day and luxury sweets, anniversary dinners and candlelit bistros, marriage proposals and monuments befitting the momentousness of the occasion. And because of Paris’s romantic reputation, this is the place to be for couples of all kinds looking to fully embrace the preciousness of their love, far away from the hustle and bustle of life back home.

Of course, Paris – known widely as the City of Love – provides the ultimate opportunity to get creative with your dating plans. It’s a highly diverse and vibrant metropolis; no two streets are the same in Paris, and that means thinking up date ideas is – for happy couples over here on a city break – incredibly exciting. From cabarets to canal tours; museums to the cobbled streets of Montmartre, there are plenty of pastimes on offer for loved up leisure-seekers. If you’re staying with us in our hostel in Paris, finding unique date ideas is easy; you and your other half are in for a real treat while experiencing amour aplenty across the French capital.

Show Off Your Sweet Side in a Macaron Masterclass

Taking a cooking class together is always a fun and exciting date (and you’ll leave with something delicious at the end of it too). When it comes to cookery, keeping things sweet is your best bet, and attending a magical macaroon masterclass means you can bake your way to your date’s heart. Interactive and sure to have some long-term payoffs, many couples relish the chance to bond over a shared love of sugary treats; they can’t resist getting close to one another while at the same time testing their teambuilding skills. And most assuredly, if you act like you know what you’re doing the entire time, it’s a guaranteed way to impress your date. Either that or you can always share in happy memories of the culinary mistakes you make together!

A Romantic Picnic on the Seine

Paris’s status as ‘The City of Love’ has made the banks of its most famous river one of the best destinations for a couple’s picnic; day or night, whenever you decide to bring your basket to the Seine, the romantic atmosphere promises to be perfect. All it takes is a bottle of wine, a baguette, and some local cheeses to make the ultimate dinner date.

If you want to make things even more magical, bring candles and a blanket. And don’t be afraid to spread out; this is a setting made for relaxation and enjoying each other’s company.

A Day Out in Montmartre

As one of Paris’s most romantic neighbourhoods, Montmartre is an intimate couples’ retreat that shouldn’t be missed.

Here the charm of the streets that have inspired artists, singers, and muses alike for the best part of a century is yours to discover and enjoy to the fullest. Standing at the foot of Montmartre hill, you’ll find the Musée de la Vie Romantique, which – as well as several enticing exhibits – features a charming courtyard perfect for a stroll with your significant other. But before that, be sure to make a reservation for weekend brunch at the Hôtel Particulier Montmartre; serving up two starters, your choice of main course, and two desserts, dinner is accompanied by a hot beverage, a fresh juice, French pastries and fresh bread. It’s a worthwhile treat for you and your special someone to enjoy together.

A Wine Tasting at Ô Chateau

Located just a few doors down from the Louvre, Ô Chateau is one of Paris’s most elegant wine bars; for couples visiting the city on a romantic getaway, it would make the perfect date destination. A casual glass or two at this gorgeous establishment is a wonderful way to bond with your partner over the finer things in life. And if you feel like treating yourselves, dinner here promises perfection, although you will need to reserve a table ahead of time, owing to the restaurant’s immense popularity.

For a date to remember, you might consider signing up for a group or, better yet, private wine tasting session. The typical format to expect is a two-hour guided experience, at the bar or in a private room, savouring a beautiful selection of fine wines from France and the rest of the world. Any specifics can easily be organized on request with Ô Chateau, should you wish to make a particularly grand gesture.

Let Sparks Fly at the Louvre (After Dark)

Arguably Paris’s most popular museum, you can’t go to the City of Love without visiting the Louvre for a romantic stroll among its loving art. And if you thought getting up close to the Mona Lisa was never easy, think again. Every Wednesday and Friday evening, the Louvre hosts a late opening, where you’ll find things considerably quieter than if you were to visit during the day. In fact, it’s the ideal date if you and your other half want to indulge your adventurous sides and soak up an atmosphere like something straight out of a Dan Brown thriller.

As you make your way along the museum’s shadowy, labyrinthine corridors, you’ll be able to take in some of the greatest artworks in human history. The incredible Italian collection hosts the famous Grande Galerie, featuring many of the greatest names in Italian Renaissance art: Botticelli, Titian, Bellini, and Raphael are just a handful of the artists whose work is on display here. And how could you ever think of skipping Leonardo’s Mona Lisa herself; mysterious and magnificent, you and your partner can fully appreciate its outstanding beauty without too much crowding.

Canals of Paris

After that romantic picnic by the Seine, you’re both bound to be tempted by a captivating cruise along the Parisian waterways. Together, you’ll have plenty of sights to discover that bring the amorous ambience of the city to life.

As you journey down the tranquil waters of these canals, lined with hundred-year-old trees and spanned by elegant footbridges, you’ll be treated to a peaceful experience that is simply magical when you’re sharing it with someone special. And when your vessel slides effortlessly under the amazing vault of the Bastille? Well, let’s just say the light there is truly magical. For a level of romance that’s difficult to beat, a canal cruise of Paris is a wonderful way to impress your date.

Discover the Captivating World of Cabaret

Cabaret is a local institution in Paris, offering loved up visitors a chance to immerse themselves in old-school Parisian culture while still having the time of their lives. It’s a hearty helping of kitschy fun coupled with a love for longstanding erotic codes; if you're in the mood for French cancans as well as all the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas, traditional Paris cabarets will provide a wonderful evening for you and your special someone. Whether you want to take in a serious, arty or more subdued cabaret performance during your time in Paris, there’s a perfect theatre waiting for you in the City of Love.

The most famous cabaret-theatre in Paris is undoubtedly the Moulin Rouge, made famous by the Hollywood movie that bears its name. However, you’ll find plenty of shows throughout the city, all of which deliver the art, synchronization, vibrant costumes and inter-act performers, who are known for incredible feats involving everything from animals to ventriloquist dummies (on some occasions at the same time!). It may not seem like the obvious choice for a romantic date, but we swear, a night at the cabaret is sure to take both you and your partner’s breath away.

A Trip to the Pont des Arts

There was a time when couples all over the world visited Paris to walk on the famous Pont des Arts bridge and attach padlocks with their names on them, before throwing away the keys into the Seine to symbolise their commitment to each other. Now, even though the locks have been removed – owing to the bridge being warped by the sheer number of them! – the Pont des Arts remains a glorious place for lovers to visit and celebrate their special connection.

And even if you can’t hang locks on the bridge anymore, feel free to get creative; a ribbon or something light that can be tied to the metal will say those three magic words just as well. Offering fantastic views across Paris, the Pont des Arts is a place where love flourishes and thrives, so make sure you tick it off your to-do list during your time here.

And that’s just about au revoir from us. Good place for a romantic getaway? We think you’ll agree Paris is perfect. To fully take in its amorous atmosphere, be sure to go for a more unique choice of date; you’ll feel like you’re falling in love all over again in this city of immense possibilities.
