Meet The Locals: Harald Brostorm, Katla Studios

Who are you and what do you do? What does your job in Stockholm involve?
I'm a producer at my independent production company, Katla Studios. Our speciality is shooting documentaries. Lately, we've been producing content for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Max Martin, a documentary about Swedish MMA star Alexander Gustafsson and the series you are looking at right now: Meet The Locals. I run the studio with my friend and colleague Love, he’s a director of photography, so we split the workload. At the end of the day that usually means, mucho trabajo, poco dinero.

Why is Stockholm a great place to do what you do?
Because I have my friends, family and my girlfriend here. I’m privileged in that I can meet my aunts for lunch, see my cousins grow up and share breakfast with friends. We work to live, not live to work, right?

Have you lived in Stockholm your entire life?
I moved here three or four years ago. Stockholm is pretty small but feels like a metropolis. You can write off the kids telling you “Berlin has way better clubs” - but you’ll find it’s actually those same kids that push the limits of the city’s nightlife.

What’s your favourite thing about living in Stockholm?
It's big enough that you can feel anonymous, but small enough so you can still run into people for a quick chat. For me, a countryside boy, all the stars are aligned: there's a lot happening but at the same time you don't have to face old flames or friends parents every time you have a drink.

What’s your favourite place or neighbourhood to hang out in the winter months in Stockholm?
Leave the phone at home. Then start with a breakfast at Hornstull, go practice at Stockholm Kickboxing, have dinner at Mondo Tapas on Odengatan, and drinks at Snövit (Ringvägen).

If you had a tourist friend visiting the city for one weekend, what would you recommend?
I guess you have H&M all over the world, you can shop anywhere: save your energy during the day. Our rap scene may have peaked a couple years ago, but there’s still some great nights going on.
