Get ready for an Italian adventure at Generator Venice

Ready for an Italian adventure that’ll be swimming through your mind for years to come?

When you book a stay at Generator Venice, exploring the floating city is as easy as ordering pizza. You’ll find our affordable yet stylish hostel right on the waterfront of Giudecca Island, just a short Vaporetto ride from all the action. Originally a warehouse, our Venice boutique hostel blends history and character with contemporary design features – there’s luxurious mosaic floors, a glass chandelier and an imposing stone fireplace that gives off Venetian vibes. And the best part? Every one of our rooms comes with a view; the gardens, Lido, Grande Canal or Piazza San Marco. Not too shabby, eh?

Of course, the real star of the show is Venice itself. In this marble city you’ll find beauty at every corner; from famous landmarks such as the Doge’s Palace and Rialto Bridge to the maze of waterways that are dotted with restaurants and bars where you can indulge in some of the finest pasta and vino you'll ever taste.

Trust us, a trip to Venice is an experience like no other. There are few places in the world that’ll make you stop and go ‘Ciao Bella,’ but Venice is in a league of its own.

Booking perks

  • Is Venice safe to visit?

Venice is generally safe for visitors. The city has a low crime rate, and violent crime is rare. Keeping your belongings secure and staying aware of your surroundings can help prevent petty crime.

Venice’s narrow streets and canals can make navigation challenging, so be cautious when walking and pay attention to signs and directions. Some areas can be prone to flooding, especially during high tides (acqua alta), which can impact travel plans and mobility. Checking local weather conditions and tide reports can help you prepare.

  • Is Venice LGBTQ+ friendly?

Yes, Venice is LGBTQ+ friendly. The city has a welcoming atmosphere and offers several LGBTQ+ friendly spaces. Gay-friendly bars and clubs can be found, particularly in areas like the Cannaregio district. These venues provide inclusive environments for socializing and entertainment.

Venice hosts LGBTQ+ events throughout the year, including film festivals and parties, though it might not be as prominent as in larger cities. The community is visible and supported. Local laws and social attitudes in Venice are generally supportive of LGBTQ+ rights, contributing to an inclusive and accepting environment for visitors.

  • When is the best time to visit Venice?

Spring (March to May) is ideal with mild temperatures and fewer tourists. The city's gardens and canals are particularly picturesque as the weather warms up.

Summer (June to August) provides warm weather, but it can be hot and crowded with tourists. Venice is vibrant with events and activities, but accommodation prices are higher.

Autumn (September to November) offers cooler temperatures and fewer crowds compared to summer. It's a great time to explore Venice with comfortable weather and less congestion.

Winter (December to February) is quieter and less crowded. While it can be cold and foggy, the city is beautifully decorated for the holidays, offering a more peaceful experience.

  • How can I be a good tourist in Venice?

Respect local customs by dressing modestly when visiting churches and religious sites. Avoid wearing revealing clothing in these areas. Stay on designated paths and sidewalks to avoid disrupting local businesses and residents. Venice’s narrow streets can be crowded, so be mindful of pedestrian flow.

Use gondolas and water taxis responsibly, keeping noise levels down and following any local guidelines for these services. Respect the space and privacy of other passengers. Be mindful of the environment by disposing of trash properly and avoiding littering. Venice is a delicate city with unique challenges related to waste management.

Avoid blocking narrow passageways and bridges while taking photos or consulting maps. Venice’s infrastructure requires clear paths for both locals and tourists.

  • What public holidays/events in Venice should I be aware of?

Carnival of Venice (February) is a major event featuring elaborate masks, costumes, and celebrations. It’s one of the most famous and crowded times in the city, with numerous parties and parades. Venice Biennale (May-November, every two years) is an international art exhibition showcasing contemporary art, architecture, and cinema. It attracts global visitors and artists.

Regata Storica (September) is a historic boat race along the Grand Canal, celebrating Venetian maritime tradition with colorful processions and races. Feast of the Redeemer (July) involves a large fireworks display over the lagoon and a traditional pontoon bridge. It’s a significant local celebration with festive activities. La Mostra del Cinema (September) is the Venice Film Festival, attracting international filmmakers and celebrities, with numerous screenings and events across the city.

WHY GENERATOR VENICE?

The Floating City

Venice, surrounded by its beautiful blue lagoon, has inspired many artists over the years. Known as 'La Serenissima' or 'Most Serene Republic,' the city will leave a lasting impression on you. With its stunning art, ancient buildings, and famous landmarks like St. Mark's Basilica and the Grand Canal, trust us when we say that Venice has something that’ll float your boat…or gondola in this case.

You can explore its charming streets, enjoy shopping, taste delicious food (gelato anyone?), and discover local hotspots amongst its hidden streets and alleys. Because if you want to find the real Venice, you have to get lost – best mute Google Maps for now.

Venetian style and comfort

Built within the shell of an old warehouse, #GenVenice offers a one-of-a-kind experience that blends the best of modern design with the rich heritage of Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance architecture.

Step into our cosy Venetian rooms, where comfort meets a touch of local charm, making you feel right at home. Whether you prefer private or shared rooms of various sizes, we have you covered. Looking for extra convenience? Opt for our rooms with en-suite bathrooms or check out our exclusive female-only dorms.
