What better place to celebrate Independence Day than the capital of the USA? 

No, it’s got nothing to do with Will Smith or alien invasions…drape yourself in the Star Spangled Banner and head to the National Mall where you’ll see fireworks exploding over the Washington Monument for the patriotic Fourth of July display (and whatever you do, don’t mention the Queen!).

Exciting things happen all through the year in DC, fom huge sporting events to the Washington DC Jazz Festival. And you better have your selfie stick at the ready if you’re around in spring for the Cherry Blossom Festival. The city blooms into a sea of pretty pink florals thanks to the cherry trees (a gift from Japan, naturally) and comes alive with parades, concerts and arts events.
