Reading Time: 5 Minutes

Live music has a special place in all our hearts. Nothing compares to watching your favourite bands play right in front of your eyes. And in Miami, offering the chance to check out top live music is the city’s greatest privilege.

It doesn’t matter what genre of music you’re into; there’s no denying the rush you get when those first few notes start. You’ll find a whole host of live music venues while staying with us in our hotel in Miami . Not sure where to look? Check out some of our suggestions!

The Fillmore Miami Beach
1700 Washington Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139, USA

A historic venue that’s been in Miami Beach since 1950, the Fillmore was once used as the filming location for The Jackie Gleason Show. Now under the management of Live Nation, this beloved space attracts a wonderfully diverse crowd who’re all there to have a great time and enjoy the sounds they love. And with acts such as Father John Misty, Janelle Monae and more gracing the stage, it’s always a fun evening for everyone. Operating smoothly and quite easy on the eyes, the Fillmore is Miami’s live music sweet spot. Hosting sets not big enough for an arena but too large for local clubs, bands and audiences alike are in for a real treat.

Mango's Tropical Café
900 Ocean Dr, Miami Beach, FL 33139, USA

A vibrant bar featuring energetic dancers with colourful costumes, the legendary Mango's Tropical Café on Ocean Drive brings together live music, dance and visuality for an evening of dynamic entertainment. Fun, frolics and funky tunes are all on order, and you'll be hooked once the first song starts playing. Open until the small hours – every night of the week! – Mango's hosts continuous live performances and takes you on a journey throughout the Caribbean. Welcoming over a million guests each year and having been televised on ABC, CBS, Travel Channel and many others, you’re in the right place for an unforgettable live music extravaganza.

Las Rosas
2898 NW 7th Ave, Miami, FL 33127, USA

A rock bar with just the right amount of metal, Las Rosas frequently hosts live local music and late-night rock ‘n’ roll revelry. There’s a vibe here that’s unlike anywhere else in Miami, so the evening’s entertainment is loud and proud. With a stellar sound system and plenty of booze, everyone’s in for a good time. Also, there are mosh pits, queer parties and more surprises every night. And the best part? It doesn’t cost anything to listen to! Located in Allapattah (a short jaunt from Wynwood), you’ll be immediately transported to a world of neon rose and tunes that take your breath away. Interested to pay a visit during your stay in Miami? You’ll thank us later.

Ball & Chain
1513 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33135, USA

With surroundings that are equally historic and gorgeous, Ball & Chain welcomes the whole of Miami to enjoy free live music – every single day of the week. Situated in Calle Ocho, it’s the area’s most popular bar (and for good reason!). You can get excited about being within a few feet of the iconic Pineapple Stage, which is fun enough to look at unoccupied, let alone when it’s hosting so many awesome bands on the bill. And given that the current venue is a recreation of the same 1930s hotspot that once rolled out the red carpet for jazz superstars like Billie Holiday, Count Basie and Chet Baker, we’d say you’re in good company.

Fontainebleau Miami Beach
4441 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33140, USA

Did you know that Miami Beach’s hotels also provide a wide variety of musical entertainment? For instance, the rising star that is the Fontainebleau hosts their regular concert series. Called BleauLive, it features some of the biggest acts of the year; past performers include Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, Katy Perry, Pitbull and other artists who bring the crowd’s energy onstage. The space is lined with lush green palm trees, offering the perfect setting to enjoy live music. When it comes to concerts in Miami, this is where the party’s at. Just make sure you’re ready to dance till dawn, ‘cause once you start, there’s no turning off the magic!

Churchill’s Pub
5501 NE 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33137, USA

An authentic American dive bar, Churchill’s Pub is as proud and iconic a part of the Miami music scene as any venue in town. Producing more glorious moments over the last 30-plus years than anywhere else in the state of Florida, its stage takes the excitement to a whole new level. Even after such an impressive run, Churchill’s is still standing pretty much the same as it ever was (thank you, Talking Heads!), packing in the punk, hosting hip-hop and jamming with jazz groups. You’ll also find a couple of pool tables, Space Invaders video games and a jukebox stuffed with skatepunk. But you won’t need any of that when there are quality bands playing in the back!

Hoy Como Ayer
2212 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33135, USA

Located in Little Havana, a riverside neighbourhood known for its Cuban roots, Hoy Como Ayer is one of the city’s best bars for Latin music. Offering performances from new and established acts, dance skills will be put to the test here, for sure. It’s got a snug vibe and customers aren’t shy about being loud when the song calls for it, which suits us just fine. Nowhere else in Miami can you find a setting quite like this: a chic, intimate space with tight round tables huddled before a low stage and walls bedecked with pictures of Latin icons, all in black and white. This place should be at the top of your Miami to-do list; you’re sure to catch a great act any night!

Bougainvillea’s Old Florida Tavern
7221 SW 58th Ave, South Miami, FL 33143, USA

Featuring live reggae and local jam bands, Bougainvillea’s Old Florida Tavern is a colourful and vibrant venue that’s been delighting music audiences since the Depression. ‘Bougies’, as it’s affectionately known, is one of Miami’s top tourist draws, and it’s easy to see why. Named after one of the most recognisable flowers blooming throughout Florida, it’s known for serving setlists that make everyone happy. Gritty yet effervescently refreshing, people not only come here for the tunes but also the community. It’s the right place to visit for a laid-back feel and the chance to hear some great local acts. Warning though, once you’re in, you’ll find it hard to leave!

No matter what your tastes, there’s a perfect live music venue waiting for you in Miami. We hope our picks have inspired you to unleash your inner rocker or get in touch with your more soulful side. Happy gigging, folks!
