From using gondolas as taxis to enjoying the world’s best gelato - trust us, we tried them all, Venice is the perfect destination for a quick getaway.

The best way to navigate through the 100 small islands is via a traditional gondola, although we cannot help wishing we could jet-ski our way through the intricate canals on our way to Piazza San Marco.

Imagine gorgeous renaissance palaces and gothic architecture, then throw in the most vibrant modern elements along with a local crowd that is as welcoming as it is fun-loving.

In our Instagramable Venice series we are visiting ‘the drawing room of Europe’: Piazza San Marco. The square hosts a triage of breath-taking sights: St Mark’s basilica, Doge’s Palace and Torre dell’Orologio will give you snaps for days.
